Only 18 percent of respondents said they believed politicians have prioritized their own financial interests over the interests of others. The report also indicates that Americans feel disengaged in the political process. Seventy-one percent said they had no opinion on current politics, and a majority said they’d never voted in a general election. The survey also found that only about one-quarter of Americans have friends who lean left or right politically, and that left-leaning friends generally live on the East Coast, while right-leaning friends are more likely to live in the West.
